Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) blocks come in various types such as Kimblok (Ytong type), tooth and groove, as well as blocks designed for high compressive strengths (concrete block), gluing (PLS), or traditional bricklaying (Dumoulin).

Is gluing AAC blocks faster than bricklaying?

Building a wall or partition with AAC BLOCKS is a project that requires time and attention. The processing of these interior wall blocks can be done in several ways.

You can choose to lay the blocks using mortar, but gluing is also an option. Adhesive foam or adhesive mortar/PLS is used for this purpose.

Whether it's better to glue or to bricklay depends on the situation, as both methods have their own advantages and disadvantages.

For short walls or partitions with many interruptions, bricklaying is often preferred. This has the advantage of:

  • Fewer AAC blocks being required

  • Masonry blocks are lighter in weight

  • More affordable compared to adhesive blocks

Gluing is often chosen for long walls or partitions. It is a faster method of processing that can easily be done by oneself. The processing time for adhesive blocks is up to 40% shorter compared to masonry blocks. It requires very little water to prepare the mortar, which reduces drying time. Furthermore, there is less risk of sagging walls when gluing.

With this method, interior walls can be built directly to ceiling height. After just 24 hours, a glued wall reaches the mechanical strength needed to withstand wind.

Additionally, adhesive blocks are lightweight, which increases ease of handling. Although the material costs of adhesive blocks are higher than those of masonry blocks, the overall cost difference between the two methods is not significant.
